Katherine Martyak
(teacher) Katherine began her extensive training with Mrs. P’s Dance and Acrobatic Studios in South Florida at the age of three and joined their company a few years later. When her family relocated to North Carolina, she continued her training throughout middle and high school where she focused on Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary, Musical Theater, Hip-hop, and tap. On the competitive circuit, Katherine was a scholarship finalist at West Coast Dance Explosion and won a hip-hop scholarship to Los Angeles from Adrenaline Dance Convention. She was on her high school dance team all four years, choreographed for the team, and was voted captain. Katherine also took part in the school musicals where she played "Bonnie" in Anything Goes her freshman year and then went on to choreograph Guys and Dolls her junior year. Katherine was chosen to attend Destination Broadway, a camp in NYC, where she sang with Sutton Foster and took classes by Mary Mcleod and Mary Ann Lamb. She received a BFA in Dance Performance from East Carolina University. She was in multiple faculty and student productions and continued to attend conventions so that she could soak up as much knowledge from a variety of teachers and provide fresh and stimulating techniques to her students. Due to her success in dance team, Katherine was asked to lead and judge auditions for two high schools in the Raleigh Area. Most recently, Katherine was a dancer in the Miss North Carolina Pageant and danced in “Random Acts”, a variety show choreographed by Tommi Galaska. To her being a dance teacher is an extraordinary opportunity to share her passion of this art form and to motivate students the way that her teachers have motivated her. Katherine is extremely excited to make Richmond her new home and to share her passion of dance with a new group of students here at Jessica Morgan!
