~ We follow Dance Educators of America and Dance Masters of America curriculum ~

Creative Movement (ages 2-3) – 30 minutes
Class introduces locomotor skills, listening & following musical verbal directions, socialization, equipment manipulation (hoops, balls, parachute, ect…), encourages individual use of creative ideas in their own body movement & self-control.

Wear:
black leotard (any style), pink or white tights, white ballet shoes. BOYS: Black shorts, white T-shirt and white ballet shoes.

PreBallet (ages 3-4) – 40 minutes
PreBallet continues to build on body awareness & use of individual creative movement ideas. Basic fundamental Ballet positions & terms are introduced, movement directions & use of special floor patterns become more structured.

Wear:
black leotard (any style), pink or white tights, White Ballet shoes. BOYS: Black shorts, white T-shirt and White Ballet shoes.

Ballet/Tap I & II (ages 4-5 or 5-7) – 1 hour
Students are taught more basic Ballet positions & terms, along with introducing Tap. Tap helps to develop more coordination & use of basic rhythms.

Wear:
black leotard (any style), pink or white tights, white ballet shoes and black tap shoes. BOYS: Black shorts, white T-shirt and White Ballet shoes and black tap shoes.

Trio I (ages 6-7) – 1 hour and 30 minutes
Dancer must have taken 2 years of Ballet/Tap so each dancer will start their 3rd year of Ballet and Tap, and 1st year of Jazz.

Wear:
Black leotard, pink or white tights, White Ballet shoes, Tan “Mary Jane” Tap shoes, and Tan Jazz shoes.

Trio II (ages 7-8) – 1 hour and 30 minutes
Dancers must have taken 2 years of Ballet/Tap & 1 year of Trio I.  This class continues 4th years levels in Ballet & Tap, 2nd year of Jazz, & adds basic tumbling skills. A “Ballet Dictionary” is required & can be purchased in our Dance ‘n Wear Store. (Highlighter needed)

Wear:
Black leotard, pink or white tights, White Ballet shoes, Tan “Mary Jane” Tap shoes, and Tan Jazz shoes.

Ballet (ages 7-9 or 9-11; preteen/teen; adults)
(beginning –advanced levels) 1 hour

Basic fundamentals of Ballet steps & terminology including barre, center floor & traveling combinations.  Students use a “Ballet Dictionary” which can be purchased in our Dance “n Wear Shop. (Highlighter Needed)

Wear: black leotard; pink, tan or white tights; White Ballet shoes. Some instructors allow ballet skirts.

Pointe (ages 11-Up, Beginning – Advanced Levels):
45 mins – 1 hr.

Based on: (1) recommendation of the instructor; (2) 5 or more years of Ballet training; (3) must attend our “Spring Sports Medicine Clinic” (TBA) to check out strength, any knee or ankle problems, & back for scoliosis. All Beginning Pointe Dancers must take their 1st Pointe class during our summer session along with a Ballet class.

Wear:
black leotard; pink tights; pink Pointe shoes. Some instructors allow ballet skirts. We recommend that your Pointe Shoes purchased at Elman’s on Cary Street. Please call for a fitting appointment - 804-358-0655

Jazz (ages 7-9 or 9-11; preteen/teen; adults) ( beginning – advanced levels) –1 hour
Explore many different jazz dance styles using updated music. Movements focus on isolations, stretches, body alignment, strength building, and center & across the floor combinations.

Wear:
Leotard (any color), tights or jazz pants (any color), and tan jazz shoes

Tap (ages 7-9 or 9-11; preteen/teen; adults)
(beginning - advanced levels) 45 mins – 1 hr

The class includes basic Tap warm up skills & tap steps while learning terms. Combinations center & across the floor are incorporated & speed & rhythms increase as levels progress.

Wear:
Leotard (any color), tights or jazz pants (any color) & tap shoes. ** Please check with your teachers or our Dance ‘N Wear Shop for Tap shoes needed. Styles Vary!

Lyrical (beginning – advanced levels) – 1 hour
Must be recommended by the teacher & have at least 4 years of Ballet training.  Lyrical is a style of dance that includes interpretation of the music.  Styles might include a blend of Ballet, Jazz & Modern dance techniques. Improvisation & creativity are an important part of the dancer’s background to aid in progression.

Hip Hop (ages 6-8 or 9-11; preteen/teen; adult)
( beginning – advanced levels) – 1 hr

 Explores new & fun dance moves while learning proper jazz warm-ups to stretch & prepare the body to dance.  Choreography and music selected are age appropriate.

Wear:
T-shirt, bike or jazz pants, Black Hip Hop shoes, & tights or socks

Musical Theatre / Show Choir
(ages 9-11; preteen/teen) – 1 hour

Includes dance, basic voice skills, theatre style warm-up & drama.  Designed to work on basic movement & choreography that is used for the stage.
