Christopher Smidt
(teacher) began his formal training at the age of 12 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Upon finishing high school, Chris received a scholarship to Pacific Northwest Ballet School in Seattle, Washington.  In 1987 and 1988, he also received full summer school scholarships to School of American Ballet in New York City. In 1987, he received an apprenticeship with the Pacific Northwest Ballet (PNB) becoming a full company member in 1989.  While at PNB, Chris appeared in PNB’s movie of the Nutcracker.  In 1990, Chris moved to Toronto, Canada to join the National Ballet of Canada.  During this time he also appeared as guest artist with Ballet Jorgen and David Taylor Dance Theatre.  Chris and his wife Karen moved to Richmond, Virginia in 1993 where he performed solo and principle roles with the Richmond Ballet until 1996.  Over the years, Chris has had the pleasure of working with some wonderful teachers and coaches, and hopes to pass on those experiences to the students in his ballet classes.  Chris is a certified massage therapist of 12 years and the owner of Integrative Massage Therapy, LLC in Carytown.
